Where do I start? First, let me assure you that the appearance of this site will improve over time. It’s been a long time since I’ve blogged, and I’m no graphic designer, so it’ll take me some time to make it look more presentable. For now, the words are most important to me, so a better design will be prioritized later.

I suppose I should introduce myself. Hi—my name is Kelly. I’ve been writing, in some form or another, for the past 25 years, and I have been an editor for more than a decade. I am a connoisseur of pop culture, and especially love things that others often consider…a bit niche. I started my first blog, Looking at Them, in the early aughts and then wrote for Popdose for about four years. I stopped writing for pleasure for a long time because I got a paid writing gig that sucked all the creativity out of me. After eight years of writing and editing for someone else, I decided it was time to write for myself again.

Unlike my other forays into writing on the internet, I’m not going to concern myself with how many people are reading what I write. While I do hope to attract some readers who enjoy what I put out into the world, I have no grand plans to monetize my writing. I just want a place of my own to share my thoughts and to get back to writing about what I love (and, sometimes, don’t love).

So, what should you expect from A Bit Niche? Well, a little bit of everything, I guess—pop culture writing, personal essays, reviews, recommendations, lists of things I love, playlists I’ve created. You might even find me discussing figure skating, my favorite sport, and musing about beauty products, a personal passion. I’m taking an “anything goes” attitude about this site and I hope we’ll all have some fun.
